CHAPTER 20
Georgia tossed and turned all night. With a groan, she punched her pink satin pillow with the giant eyelash print as hard as she could.
Guilt flooded her instantly. She hugged the pillow, smoothing the spot she had just pummeled. âSorry, Lashes. Itâs not your fault I canât sleep. I shouldnât take my mood out on you.â
And now she was talking to her pillow.
She should be punching Hutch, not an innocent pillow. Yeah, right in the nose.
Well, not in the nose. That would hurt him. She didnât want to hurt him. Maybe in the arm. That would work. His arms were all muscle. She couldnât hurt his arm.
But it would still show him how mad she was. How dare he take her phone? Who did he think he was?
He thinks heâs your Daddy, thatâs who.
Georgia scowled. Sometimes she wished the voice in her head would shut up.
No matter what he thought, Hutch didnât have the right to act like he had last night. Even if he was her Daddy.
Only now, he couldnât be her Daddy. Not anymore.
Her eyes burned but she blinked back tears. She had to be strong to protect her Daddy from himself. From Jarrod. He wanted to make her problems go away, but he had no idea who he was dealing with.
And there was something he didnât know. Something that would make him hate her. She shouldnât have let things get this far with Hutch. It wasnât fair to him.
She couldnât stop the tears now. She was a horrible person, and now she had put her Daddy in danger.
Because her Daddy⦠no, Hutch, not her Daddy⦠Hutch was in danger now, and it was all her fault.
She should have turned off her phone so Jarrod couldnât call. Then Hutch wouldnât have challenged Jarrod. Now he was on Jarrodâs radar.
It was five oâclock in the morning. The sun wasnât even up yet. She paced around her apartment, arms wrapped around her middle. She knew what she had to do, but the thought made her tummy ache.
She had always known she wasnât good enough for Hutch. He was handsome and intelligent and brave. He looked out for people and kept them safe.
He thought he could do that for her, but he couldnât. Jarrod was a classic psychopath and the poster child for narcissistic personality disorder.
He honestly felt no remorse. Ever. Not for anything.
He did whatever he wanted, and no one could stop him. His wealth and reputation protected him. He was a shark in the courtroom, helping the worst people in the world get out of paying for their crimes. He did horrible things to people and slept like a baby at night. Sheâd seen him do it.
Now Hutch was on his radar because of her. Nothing could happen to her Daddy.
No. Not her Daddy anymore.
The only way to deal with Jarrod was to ignore him. He thrived on attention. He had to have a steady supply of beautiful women telling him how amazing he was. And he had an endless supply of beautiful women.
